Bienvenue to Carcassonne

We first visited  Carcassonne  in  1989 and  were so enchanted with the fairy tale castle and beautiful surrounding countryside that we had a strong desire to see more of the region.

Many years after our first visit  we  moved the whole family to live near Carcassonne. Although we live and work in the unspoilt Razes countryside 25 minutes from Carcassonne we  have always desired to own a house beneath the medieval ramparts of the Carcassonne Cite. Townhouses rarely become available but recently we had the good fortune to find our house in rue de la Gaffe complete with a roof terrace. ( the photo left was taken from the roof terrace). It is now our great pleasure to open our house to travelers and first time visitors alike so that they can enjoy the unique character of this dramatic and un-spoilt region of France.

During our time here we have developed a wealth of knowledge some of which we have made available in our website.    Jason & Annette

24 rue de la Gaffe- Accommodation in Carcassonne

Our house is situated within the truly medieval Labyrinth  of alleys and small streets beneath the Cite ramparts in the picturesque Trivalle district. The area is under the jurisdiction of the Architects  for the Historic Monuments of France who impose strict building controls to maintain the historic nature of the area. The house is therefore renovated to a very high standard in keeping with its historic surroundings.

Although rue de la Gaffe is a small street it is accessible by car for unloading with free parking nearby. However it is not essential to have a car as the house is within a few minutes walk from shops, restaurants, markets, river, rail & bus stations, canal du Midi & other attractions including the Historic Cite.

The accommodation  is stylishly refurbished incorporating natural features such as exposed beams with traditional French finishes  on walls to maximize the feeling of rustic grandeur, while all modern conveniences have been incorporated into the design.

The large covered roof terrace ( 16m2) has unparalleled  views of Carcassonne whilst allowing all year round dining alfresco.
